Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, Pierre Guillaume and Couch Paslier from Skipping Rocks Lab in London invented a transparent balls filled with water that can be consumed. These balls also known as the “edible water bottle” are called Ooho.
The water is firstly allowed to freeze into a spherical piece of ice coated with the transparent membrane of calcium chloride and seaweed derivative called sodium alginate. When the water dissolves, it still retains its spherical shape.
Paslier told the Guardian:
“At the end of the day you don’t have to eat it. But the edible part shows how natural it is. People are really enthusiastic about the fact that you can create a material for packaging matter that is so harmless that you can eat it.”
Common table salt is sodium chloride. This water bottle is made from Calcium Chloride. Calcium Chloride is ice melt, it generates heat as it melts. 1,000 mg of calcium chloride is lethal for rats, it would take 3X that amount of sodium chloride (table salt) to be lethal in rats. Calcium Chloride removes moisture from the skin, it can burn your insides, and lead to abdominal pain, bone pain, confusion, depression, weakness, kidney stones, or an abnormal heart rhythm & cardiac arrest. It also can be poisonous to dogs and birds. Plus the girl in the video can’t even drink the tiny amount of water that’s in it without spilling it. Even she wasn’t brave enough to eat the “edible” water bottle. Just reuse or recycle your water bottle.
